Suzie Cavassa :: General Manager
Suzie's professional career began in 1990 while attending San Diego State University. A competitive swimmer at SDSU, Suzie was the Aquatic Coordinator at a local health club. Her ability to work with people creating a positive environment for staff and patrons was soon recognized. She was promoted to Senior Program Director supervising Aquatics, Fitness, Group Exercise, and Member Services. In 1996 she finished her degree at the University of Washington receiving a Bachelors of Music in Saxophone Performance. Suzie's personal athletic interests include swimming, running, biking, competing in local marathons and triathlons, and teaching indoor cycling classes. In her eleven years of management she has had the pleasure to work with exceptional individuals creating programs that have improved people's lives.

Joe DeShaw ACSM, NSCA :: Group Exercise and Training Services
Joe holds a Bachelors of Arts in Exercise Science from Western Washington University. He was named one of the top five trainers in Seattle and one of the top 100 trainers in the United States (Men's Journal Dec. 2004). After graduating from college Joe spent three years as an exercise technician designing and administering therapeutic exercise programs for outpatient physical therapy clinics. A personal trainer since 1993, Joe has continually sought ways in which he can provide the best service possible. His holistic approach to long term health and wellness integrates exercise conditioning, nutritional consultation and application, and stress management. Joe's HardCore™ progressive performance conditioning class has become one of ZUM's signature offerings.

Mike Hardin ACSM :: Fitness Director
Mike holds an Associates Degree in Fitness from Ashmead College. In 2002 he began a career in fitness. Mentored by Peter Shmock, Mike has developed a highly effective training style making him very popular among ZUM members. He believes that body awareness and progression of exercise intensity are essential components of personalized program design. Mike's innovative training techniques incorporate a sense of play ensuring a fun workout. In addition to managing ZUM's training staff Mike develops club-wide games and competitions, incorporating fun into everything he does. Mike's personal athletic interests include participating in local sports events, Seattle Marathon, Seattle to Portland Cycle event, and various 5 and 10k's. Mike helps his clients achieve their specific training goals by teaching them the balance of work, rest, and play, in and outside of the gym.

Ruth Magelssen :: Member Services Director
Ruth holds a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Corporate Fitness from California Lutheran University. An active athlete Ruth participated in a variety of physical activities and sports including swim team, water polo and fast pitch. Ruth's college education began at the University of Hawaii where she discovered Hula and began dancing Tahitian. After transferring to California Lutheran University, Ruth worked at a personal training studio assisting staff with movement assessment and program design. Ruth's experience in the health and wellness field has developed into a passion for helping others live healthy lives. Her personal athletic interests include group exercise classes, swimming, surfing, hiking, running and dancing for a Hula Halau here in Seattle.

Colleen Casey, LMP :: Massage Manager
Colleen has been practicing massage therapy and bodywork since 2001. She started a massage business after completing studies at Brenneke School of Massage, then spent the next year helping grow a new massage clinic in the Greenlake neighborhood. Here she worked with cyclists, runners, and triathletes while training for and completing her first triathlon. In 2003 Colleen continued her education in Sports Massage through Brenneke where she worked with various University of Washington athletes. Her results-oriented massage combines her experience in Sports Massage, Deep Tissue, Swedish Massage, and Myofascial Release.
